Dr Kush Rupasinghe

Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Kush

Dr Kush is a caring and attentive children's doctor and expert Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at King's College Hospital (KCH), London.

He trained at UCL Medical School, obtaining an MBBS qualification with an intercalated BSc in Medical Sciences and Psychology. he subsequently completed an MSc In Advanced Paediatrics at the UCL Institute of Child Health with distinction. He holds Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) and is a member of both the European and British Societies of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN and BSPGHAN). He currently sits as a Board Member of BSPGHAN Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) working group committee.

Dr Kush is highly involved in the training of doctors. He sat on the College Special Advisory Committee (CSAC) for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (PGHAN) and held responsibility for UK PGHAN doctors' training and assessment. He is a trainer in Paediatric Endoscopy, and trains other doctors in endoscopy for children. He trains doctors on the only JAG accredited paediatric endoscopy course in London. He is the current Undergraduate Lead for Paediatric Gastroenterology teaching for King's College London (KCL) at KCH and Lead for Human Development. He has held posts as Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London.

 

Dr Kush is involved in the cutting edge of treatment advances. He is principle investigator for several international studies, including both phase 2 and 3 trials. He is principle investigator for a novel treatment for ulcerative colitis, helping advance the field of Paediatric Gastroenterology and finding more ways to treat children with chronic gastrointestinal conditions. 

He is also the Child Health medical lead for the EPIC digital healthcare system at King's College Hospital and is interested in transforming healthcare information systems to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction and optimise efficiency. He has a special interest in using artificial intelligence in real healthcare settings.

Mission

Dr Kush is an experienced endoscopist who can perform gastroscopy, ileocolonoscopy, video capsule placement, pH impedance studies and various therapeutic endoscopic procedures. He is a certified trainer in paediatric endoscopy and trains doctors from all over the U.K. in the performing the procedure. He also trains other doctors in the only Royal College of Physicians (RCP JAG) accredited paediatric endoscopy course in London. 

Vision

Dr Kush is an expert in treating constipation and has set up the paediatric anorectal manometry service in King's College Hospital.
